If the boom is to the left, the sheet is coming out the wrong side of the
sheave.

In all pictures the goose neck is to the right.
In one I removed the device from the boom and you can see the device is
incapable of being reversed.(that was my first thought and the reason for
removing it).
I guess there are only 2 possibilities left: either the sheet or the sheave
are too big, or

Having fun playing with and learning my NMEA 2000 network, and various
interfaces and apps. Have run into an issue (likely personal) getting AIS
targets to display.
Anyone else have this sort of issue? Some cool screenshots from the
actisense NMEA viewer.

I agree with Tom:
"The black smoke may indicate excessive carbon buildup. If you don't have
three hours to run it is, next time you bring her in while the engine is
still running out it in neutral and run it up to 90% of max RPM for about 5
minutes.

Brian,
My 1991 37+ looks the same. The fine trim jams the mainsheet into the slot
that is screwed into the boom. I haven’t noticed any chafing but I don’t use
the fine trim.

Tom,
Running a diesel like that under no-load conditions won’t help it much.
Running it at the slip in gear would provide some load to the engine and be
more beneficial. We usually have a 45 to 60 minute motor to the race course,
which helps keep the engine in top shape. I usually set it
Does the sheet go to the left inside the boom, or to the right? If it goes
to the left, the sheet should enter the sheave on the right side.

I can’t tell from the photo, the direction of the boom, eg, is the gooseneck on
the left or the right of the photo?
Maybe the exit block is mounted in the wrong direction? I know it is a
stupid question, but maybe some how it got turned around.
It looks like some serious chafing!

We have our “big boat” in the same marina as Steve’s 36. For the most part,
everyone fared well (from the videos our dockmate sent). A couple boats on D
dock came loose but not lost, Steve. A lot of torn canvas on the power boats
and popped dock cleats, but from what we hear, that's about it. No
Brian,
How old and large is that line? Is it too big for the sheave? If it is
original to the boat, it may just be time to replace it.

I believe I posted about this before but I have some more info.
I have a 37/40xl. 1993.
Where the mainsheet enters the boom there is chafing. It appears to be
happening because of the angle going into the sheave block that is screwed
into the boom.
As far as I know there are no modifications to the

I refinished the table top and did a few other touch ups in the main

Thanks Randy. My boat survived undamaged according to my neighbour at the
marina. He said that the docks were damaged but did not elaborate. I am in
Canada, so no personal risk, just 4 months of labour and many boat bucks. The
closest NOAA weather device measured a maximum of "only" 60 knots, al
