Hi,
I have installed Kubuntu Feisty Beta on three machines. Two of the
machines do not display the message 'A new medium has been detected
...' and do not get automounted, when a DVD is inserted. They both
display the message when a CD is inserted.

Okay, I figured out the root of the problem: it' avahi. I removed avahi,
and rhythmbox now works smoothly even when I'm not connected to the
internet. I guess avahi needed to timeout or something before the song
could be changed. This might also be because of a configuration issue in
the default
I had other collateral effects apart from gaim crash when restarted dbus
(nautilus trying to mount already mounted nfs shares) so may be it isn't a gaim
related issue .
I rebooted to apply various updates (kernel included) and after that can't
reproduce the problem again.

After a little fiddling, I've discovered that gnome-screensaver is
turning the screen off. This is despite the fact that totem is running
in full screen, and despite the fact that the screensaver has been
disabled (Regard the computer as idle after: is set to 2 hours , and
