Can confirm this issue occurs on Ubuntu 12.10 when trying to Sync with
my Galaxy Nexus (stock 4.1.2).
To reproduce:
Start Rhythmbox - Connect phone - Right click on Media player in sidebar -
Select properties

I ran Valgrind quite a few times, but try as I might I couldn't get
gedit to crash :/

I can confirm this bug under Karmic with -intel and Compiz enabled.
A workaround is to disable Compiz (setting it to 'None' in the Visual
Effects settings). The blinking occurs when set to Normal or Extra/

I agree, this is a usability issue which is in need of a fix. There is
no indication that specific files have been cut from a folder. Upstream
do not see this as an important issue but for people switching from
Windows it is a major issue as the UI could appear unresponsive as it
does not give

gnome-power-manager emits brightness-up and -down

I still have this issue with version 2.26.1 in Karmic. The time between
the high and low of the cycle is less than .5 seconds.
This is on an MSI Wind U100, with an Intel GME945 graphics adaptor. Can
anyone else confirm this? The bug has supposedly been fixed upstream as
of version 2.24.x
