situation. I hope the description is correct.
1) I change the display set-up on my laptop slightly too fast, e.g. close the
lid, re-open, re-close (I did that quite a bit recently trying to work out bug
patterns).

Doug that's exactly what the bug says and why I filled it, you are not
being asked for the auth code simply because there is a bug in the
login. I filled the bug, the annoyance is because the application is

Now the drivers install without problems. However, I still can't connect
to the scanner (neither in iscan nor in simple-scan). Simple scan still
tells me that an epson scanner is recognised, but drivers are missing.

This could be related to OpenGL texture sizes or something similar.
Unity7 (Compiz) has workarounds to avoid that limitation. And Xfce
avoids it by not using hardware accelerated compositing at all (last I
checked). It's not surprising if only Gnome Shell hits a problem like
this...
