I get the TypeError only when I try to install the "post-release
updates" driver. Installing the release FGLRX driver works fine, but
during user logon I've got some vertical white-black stripes in full

Since this report, i have upgraded to 11.10 and i havent hit the problem since
then, it seems fixed.

Acutally it doesn't work in lucid.
Every now and then my system reverts to right handed.
When in a non-working state my xinput looks like this:

every time you point the mouse over some file you won't be able to see
the (full) name of the last file. Moving the mouse to the right or to
the left over to change the position of the yellow tooltip does
