archive and found many more cases of single-dash hiveconf than double-dash:

I was not around when this change was made but I think we should have kept
the old - dash version. We should consider adding it back.

I didn't know that -hiveconf is supported. However, from hive -H, double
dashes are seen.

-hiveconf except the new change. The only place --hiveconf appears is in
