What version of MDK are you using? There's a bug in MDK6 that causes this
problem. To solve it, you have to download some files (mainly the init
scripts) or use the update tool.

I have been able to use my CDrw as a CDrom under Mdk 7.0-2, but have not been
able to get it to write. It would, however, blank rewritable CD's! For various

After running some benchmarks I decided to move my Linux partitons around.
Since I knew the new lilo can boot from partitons over the 1024 cylinder
barrier I was happy to know that I could do this exactly the way I wanted.
Previously my setup was simple. The layout was like this:

Here are some more facts that may shed light on this problem.
I turned off my ADSL monitor, got a Failed for eth0 but StartX worked
fine and I am now in KDE using my dial-up Robotics 56k external modem.
My guess is that when your ADSL monitor is on and works fine
remove the .Xauthority file from the home directory of the user you are
trying to startx into. This will reestablish the KDE desktop and rebuild
the .Xauthority file when you use startx again.
