Hi!
If you can't read the BSOD error message, you need to set your machine NOT
to reboot after crashing. Control
Panel-System-Advanced-Startup/Recovery-Settings. UNCHECK "Automatically
Restart" and hit OK a lot.

Hi!
I use an Epson 1600 for MF work. The supplied carriers don't permit making a
contact sheet for a full 35mm roll, but they are beautifully made and
produce good film flatness. For a contact sheet, you could just lay the negs
on the copyboard. I have read of people doing that with excellent resu
AFAIK, VueScan works by using low-level calls to the scanner's interface,
and is independent of the OEM driver software. Ancient SCSI scanners work
perfectly on my XP box (with the ASPI layer installed).

I got a Dmax-Dmin of about 3.4 with my LS-2000; I would expect better from
the 4000.

Hello!
Not sure about Win 2K, but under XP, there is a "Safely Remove Hardware"
icon that shows up in the Taskbar. You select the piece of hardware you want
to remove, and a few seconds later, it tells you it is OK to remove it.

Hi!
Sounds like you need the tranny head for your Expression 800!

Have a look-- if you can pick this up, your problem is solved. If not this
one, others show up all the time on ebay, and in used equipment stores.

Hello!
You know, back when Great Yellow Father was a (virtual) monopoly, they were
a wonderful company. They actually CARED about their professional customers,
and made wonderful products like the Electric Brush, which I wish I could
still find. It makes dust fall off film. And they maintained pro
Hi!
After my LS-2000 went west, I managed to pick up a refurb Polaroid SS-4000
on ebay for $300 US. It is working very well, but I have a few questions.
First, does the lamp have an auto shut off feature, or should I be very
careful to shut the scanner off so as to conserve the lamp? It appears th
Hi!
Don't know about things in your wombat-haunted lands, but you can get the NK
Coolscan IV (with slightly better res than the 2000) for $440 US online.
That's tempting, and probably not much over the repair costs...!

Hi!
Unless you can find oversize ones, they won't do for 8x10-- width is
only 8". There are (I believe) larger magnetic sheets available for
commercial purposes such as mass production of "magnetic business cards.
Don't know a source...

Hello!
By chance, I happen to be heading off to Home Despot (sic) today. Will
look for these covers. Sounds like an excellent idea.

Hi!
Back in my wet darkroom days, we used the Kodak Electric Brush.
Expensive, but the dust positively FELL OFF!

Apologize for this repost. Seem to have been "unsubscribed" somehow, and

Hello!
Is anyone using one of these bears on Win XP? I'm down to my last slot,
need SCSI for my Nikon LS-2000, flatbeds, Zip, etc and would also like
to have 1394 for all of the wonderful gadgets I will no doubt acquire.
Price is very right on this card right now, so I hope I get some

Hello all!
I simply cannot make SilverFast work well. (Version 5.5.0r14, NK LS-2000,
Mac OS 9.1, PS 6.0.1) Negatives scan with a nasty green cast and are usually
too dark and muddy. I have set up color management correctly in PS; I
believe I have also done so in SF (the manual is gibberish, but a

It's in the "Tutorial Files" section under one of the later chapters (I
