Kate, you can teach your horses to be very gentle when they take a treat by
using a pair of metal pliers to offer it to them! After clunking their teeth
on the metal pliers a couple times they will be careful to take the treat
with their lips. Try it!

I have yet to master the art of giving a treat without feeding my fingers
while in the saddle. Definitely sends the wrong message to my smart,
responsive pony when he does the right thing, I click and treat, and then start
swearing and crying and hu

Hi Robin--are your boots still available? If so, can you explain what they
are ? I need a pair of soaking boots--something I can put on my horse to
soak her feet for 20 minutes at a time. Are these what you have? Thanks

We have used the "turn away" trick with all of our horses. An owner taught
it to her gelding so he wouldn't intimidate my granddaughter after a riding
injury.
All of the horse at our barn understand how to "ask" for treats. We swear
that while some learned

I have two pairs of sports medicine boots--a more worn SMB 100 that fit
standard front, fine-boned back and a fairly new SMB 200 warmblood front,
standard back. The SMB 100s are free for the price of shipping, the others $10
and the price of shipping. I d

I apologize for the misunderstanding about Jean G.'s move. I got the mistaken
impression that the move was imminent since she said she had found Gunnar a
home. I'm glad to hear you don't have to move right away, Jean, and are able
to stay dry with the weather

they don't pay attention to anything except getting it away from you.
I can't give them treats out of hand almost at all because they just

Robin--
You can definitely use clicker training with Fjords, but as with everything,
you have to be thoughtful about what you teach because mine will drive it
into the ground to activate the human treat dispenser. We taught our coming

Robin - you made me snort my coffee this morning with this comment!! The
ponies are really really good at clicker training. We are still fencing
pastures, so we are temporarily confined to about a half acre paddock with
muddy
footing. No riding, n

That is so cute. Ooruk and Ulyssa would just knock me down and steal all the
treats then go off to graze.
