Do you have SDL_VIDEODRIVER exported as something wierd?
Try export SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 then start freevo. Also you should
change display in freevo.conf to be x11 not xv because using x11 tells
mplayer to try xv first now.

And I am using fbdev as my display device for freevo.
I am running freevo in 640x480 mode as well, and in my lilo.conf I have
specified vga=785
I don't really have any issues with this setup at all (running Freevo 1.3.2

My radeon 7000 just simply output
My radeon 7000 just simply outputs to the monitor and TV if the TV is
connected at boot. To get X working I had to specify the 'vesa' driver.
