This reminds me of the VSAM-XA almost disaster of the early to
mid 1990s.

developers in San Jose. DFP said what they were wanting to do

Thank you all for your input! The reason for the question is that IBM
is consdering removing the CHKPT macro and is wondering if it is used
much. The COBOL runtime uses CHKPT for our checkpoint/restart functionality,
I think DFSORT does as well, and also Broadcom's Smart/RESTART facility.

Tbh, I never even knew that z/OS itself had the facility, until its demise was
announced. More commonly used seemed to be the GSAM checkpoint/restart
capability in IMS.
