I also have a cross platform question. I normally run two computers, an early
Windows, for backward hardware and
I too am interested in running my Legacy in Ubuntu Linux. Unlike the
originator if this thread, I have even had trouble using Wine. I wonder if
there will ever be a Legacy that runs in Linux.

I run WinXP in a Parallels 4 virtual machine, Legacy works just fine this way.
I don't know much about VMware, I tried a demo copy years back and didn't like
it. A virtual machine would give you the security you want while using your
copy of WinXP.

background as if it were running directly on
Ubuntu. Maybe just a cosmetic thing but it can make the usability factor better.

By one of those weird coincidences, my dual boot machine died yesterday, so
this is no longer academic. After studying all suggestions, I'm going to
classify Whine with Windoze and go with Virtualbox 4.0. Since that was only
released 12/22, the fine print
Multiple versions of Legacy can coexist on the same "computer" so long
as each copy/version is installed in its own folder. There will be a
problem with the Windows Registry entry however. The default version of
Legacy for opening .fdb files will be the LAST version/copy installed.
