Hi Paul, Josh, Will, Sarah, and Other,
Power nap also requires a firmware upgrade to work for the supported models.
This is a hardware limitation, because you can't run power nap without
excessive heat generation except on the newest processors, which are built with
on-board flash memory module
Oh wow, and it says mid-2012. Very, very interesting.

Hi Paul,
the answer to your question is unfortunately no, only the latest macs support
this feature. It has to do with hardware as well as software, so no apps would
be able to I'm afraid. I, too, would like this feature I believe. Ah well.
Yours,
Zack.

Hello,
Does all this mean that only the latest Macs can automatically download and
install software updates while in sleep mode? Does it mean that my 4 year old
iMac cannot do automatic download and install of software updates while in
sleep mode? If so that is a pity as it would be a nice feat
when using multiple maps on the i-phone with navigon, do the map
countries change automatically?
for example if you live in the uk and go to say spain and have
the map for spain, does the map for spain automatically load when
you are in spain?
if not how do you change maps of countries?

It's a nice concept though and I might brave it out and try it as I am in very
loud environments all the time such as school or what not. I guess as long as
people use it responsibly there will be no troubles w the speakers or the mac.
The mac is a resilient piece of kit anyways.
