Though I don't really like this garage door opener (very noisy) the
$1.10 for a replacement drive gear vs. $200+ for a new unit made my
decision for me.
Maybe replacing the gear and getting it lubricated properly will quiet
it down a bit.

Crapsman is a chamberlain unit. I have a good drive gear set at
Daughter's house, but it is impractical to get to them for the
foreseeable future. Chamberlain is a good brand.

I'm sure you'll make the best decision for the situation but one more data
point for the archives - after living with a torsion spring opener for a
decade, I'll never use anything else. Super quiet and extra storage space above
the door - awesome.

I looked at that, but I'm already all set up for a traditional overhead
unit (power outlet in place, etc.) so don't think I'll go that route.

My Craftsman garage door opener stopped working tonight. Motor runs but
door doesn't move.
I popped the cover off, and was showered in what looked like white
sawdust. Yep, they used nylon gears for the main drive. A worm gear
setup, the worm gear itself looks OK but the gear it's driving is now
