If you have XMBC there is a mythtv python script that you can use with
it also. It has been flawless for playback of recorded shows. I
think the newer stuff also has live-tv capabilities, but since I'm
still running myth 15.1, I can't move up to the newer version.

You can do what i did when i made a big upgrade. Make an image of the
drive using partimage, you screw it up - revert back. Just give
yourself a day to fumble with it - or just go knoppmyth and have the
least amount of headache.
