Hi Gang:
I'm trying to install Linux 7.1 on an old PC in my
office, (128 M of RAM; don't remember how much hard
drive space I have butI think it's at least 4G), but
it keeps hanging at the point where it's supposed to
be configuring the IDE. Any idea why this is
happening? Is there a fix?

Ok.
Here's what I'm doing. I go to the Linux-Mandrake site (www.linux-mandrake.com). I get to the download page which takes me to the FTP site and all I see are 6 files:
alt0, alt1, alt2, advanced.msg, boot.msg, help.msg, isolinux.bin, isolinux.cfg
Which one of these files contains the .iso
Whoops!
My mistake. The PC is PentiumII (266 MHz; I ALWAYS get that confused). I'm checking sites to find a good download.
Thank you, much, for your help.

Are there any sites that explain how to set up internal modems and printers for Linux?
Also, I'd like to set up a home network and put my Linux computer on it. I currently have Mac, Win98, WinME. They're not networked yet (I'm a real novice), and I need some information about how to go about settin

I installed Mandrake Linux on my Windoze laptop as a dual boot, a while ago, but it didn't work properly. I haven't had a chance to investigate how to remove it, but I thought I'd ask the group here. Does anyone know how to uninstall Mandrake from a Windoze laptop without hosing the entire system?

Ok. I'll try that. Thank you Todd!

Hi Miark:
I'm trying to issue the following UNIX command: x=$(print $(somevariable%.c)). What this does is saves the value of the command "print $(somevariable%.c) into x, after stripping ".c" from the right side of the variable. I can then use the variable x for other commands.
Any ideas how to do
Thank you Frank!

Ok. Thank you Gavin.
Now another question: how do we do a "fresh" install? What files (or directories) should I delete? Should I format the hard drive and start from scratch (if so how would I retain my home directory as you suggest)?
