At 9:45 this morning, I saw the Common Ground Dove* in Captree State Park
(Suffolk), in the site described by Ardith Bondi on Wednesday, viz. along
the north side of the south parking lot, opposite the toilet block. The
vegetation along the edge is not seeded grass, but mown natural dune
Echoing Will Raup's call for patience;
I'd underdressed, and by 1115 was uncomfortable, so I resolved to
drive off for a while and return later. I chose to exit via the
launching ramp complex. I turned into it, and there was the Dove! I
stopped my van on the shoulder, and stepped back
11am.
Rich Guthrie just called to say the Common Ground Dove made another appearance
after not been seen for a long time. It was seen on the grassy area near the
Upper Parking lot at Captree. It has since retreated again.
So it appears some patience is needed, but the bird is still there.

I just received a call from Shane Blodgett who says the dove is now near the
spot where it was originally found, which is the eastern most parking lot in
Captree. Apparently it's been elusive and disappears for long periods

Joe Giunta and party have re-found the Common Ground-Dove at Captree SP, very
near where Claude Bloch reported it yesterday.
The bird is along the driveway that leads to the boat-launch area.
My advice would be to park in the main parking lot (in front of the Captree
Cove restaurant), and then

I just received a call from Shai Mitra who said the Common-Ground-Dove just
flew in (7:40 AM) and is in the same place as yesterday. This is the northern
edge of the eastern-most parking lot at captree, a bit east of the boat basin.
Captree State Park in Suffolk County is at the eastern
