Joe Giunta and I (Sy Schiff) spent from 10:00 AM to noon on the top of Hook Mt.
We saw all 8 species of the expected hawks, both vultures and Common Raven. Not
too many hawks except for the Broad-wings. At one period, a kettle merged into
another kettle and another. The sky was filled

arrived at the top at 10:30 AM as the clouds began to break up. Shortly after
arriving, a kettle of mixed vultures rose in the air. This semi-reliable sign
produced our first eagle (BALD EAGLE)

Tuesday, 6 October, 2009 - just north of Nyack, Rockland County
Rockland County's Hook Mt. produced nice variety in the sky with 11
migrant raptor species (drat, no Swainson's Hawk moving down from
Coxsackie, though! ;-), & both vulture species seen moving, especially
Turkey Vultures -
Tuesday, 6 October, 2009 - just north of Nyack, Rockland County

clear, bright, sunny sky contained a few clouds. There was a slow but
continuous stream of raptors, mostly fairly high up. The mix was good while we
were there including Osprey, adult Bald

We opened the 2009 fall hawkwatch at Hook mountain in Nyack, NY today with
a handful of migrants. The first bird of the season was an osprey at about
8:20 this morning. Altogether we had 8 birds heading south:
2 osprey
1 northern harrier
3 sharp shins
1 adult bald eagle
1 immature broadwing
