The FM2 (and FM2n) does not have the flip tab but the FM does. Too
bad, as the FM2 is a great camera and reminds me of the wonderful
Pentax MX. (Just to keep on thread)

I also had an FM2, and had the coupling ring replaced with the
earlier FM style one. Cost a little bit but was well worth it.

had a wonderful feel, excellent controls, and were incredibly

The FM has the flip up tab (unless the aperture coupling ring
was replaced), the FM2 does not. I had a pair of FMs, one custom
modified with an E2 focusing screen, for a very long time and
used plenty of pre-AI, unmodified lenses on them.

As a serious Nikon user (although I have many cameras including Pentax,
Canon,Yashica, Rollei, Mamiya - I use them all and enjoy each one for its
relative merits), I would like to add that Nikon is far from a universal
fit with its lens mount.
