I've made up a roads 'n rail layer, similar to what Nearmap does, but using the OSM default style for these ways, however I removed all footways, cycleways, service ways, tracks etc etc etc and then display it with 50% opacity: http://maps.bigtincan.com/?z=14&ll=-33.714,150.332&layer=BTFFF
