I've a batch somewhere in the 85-150 KHz range. Pencil sized diameter with
wire leads taken from DECCA equipment. Bought them in the 70s from Meshna in

Back from Dayton and found in my mailbox a PLJ-9VFD-A9 digit frequency
counter block. Fresh from eBay. Very nice piece of gear for about $20. It
has a 13 MHz voltage controlled time base marked 1300446 TW 499K. Pin out

I just finished Bernard Jaffe's history of chemistry book. The Curies spent
years in a small building with tons of ore boiling, mixing, filtering, etc to

I tried a much stronger signal on XM radio inside on the window ledge. Worked
well in the car, but not the kitchen. Finally realized that I had UV coated
windows and the signal was almost not there. Opened the window, put the puck
outside, scrunched the mini-cable under the closed window and
Spark Fun has the Sarantel SL1204 Helix antennas: .8 dB NF 18 dB gain small
size. 1.8 to 3.6V supply. Dielectric loaded helix. $22.00
Made to work with small near field. These should work with modern GPS
receivers very well. I'm awaiting a couple of small diameter cables with SMB
Some of the little magnetic attached antennas on eBay will operate on 3-5V.
More problematic is using the older antennas which require 5V with the newer
chips such as the LEA-5,6,7 series which run on 3.3V. There is an internal
Bias T, but I haven't tried to bring in 5V through the Vant pin
I purchased several of the Larson GPS antennas on eBay. Various sites have
several different specs so I opened one. Since they were advertised as Timing
Antennas I hoped to find some scalar rings or such.
Inside was a nice plated board with gold looking plated traces, a dual pole
ceramic
The Ham expert on this has to be Tom Clark, W3IO, of AMSAT and the TAC system
offered at one time by TAPR. He did a lot of timing professionaly using these
as I recall.

I bought one of the 50 MHz versions at Dayton last year. OK for my needs. Not
mentioned here is that the difference between the 50 and 100 MHz scopes is
software control of roll off on the input. I haven't done it, but procedure
was available on the WEB on how to spoof the software.

There is a software hack to disable the lowpass filter in the units to turn the
50 MHz one into a 100 MHz one. Apparently no difference in hardware. The
procedure is one the WEB. I bought one of these at Hamvention and have been

Here in Kansas near a bombing range. Last year I was pheasant hunting nearby
with a farmer big into precision ag, RTK on all equipment. Walking across a

I want to get light from a wide angle (30 degrees or so) into a multimode
fiber cable to feed a fast MF466 photodiode for short distance sensing. That

Farmers around here use GPS guided equipment to guide their farm equipment. It
is possible to put fertilizer in one inch strips around the field and later go
back and plant in the same strip. Some use a reference transponder to increase
accuracy. Others seem to be able to use references on

If you want to go totally crazy on a shielded box, check out Electronic
Goldmine's MU metal sticky shielding. Used to be used on CRT shields, etc.
Probably not needed, but should kill a bunch of LF noise. Make a sandwich over
the wires entering the box, etc.
