Thanks for all the replies about the G5RV RF into the shack problem. We
ordered a W2DU-HF choke balun from AES that is supposed to solve the problem
1.8-30 Mhz with a GOOD ground for the transceiver and power supply. Will
post here how it works out. Floyd says thank you he is 89 and NOT on
Boy does that sound familiar... First make sure you have a really really good
ground.. Kenwood radios (IMHO) seem to need a better ground than many other
radios or they suffer RF problems.
I also would make sure the open wire feed line comes away from the antenna at a
90 deg angle.. IF you

Although I'm a strong advocate of the use of feedline chokes, I don't
advocate using one here. A FAR better solution for 160M with that
antenna is to tie both sides of the feedline together, tie that

I made a common mode choke for a G5RV-style antenna by stacking four 2.4"
OD #31 mix toroids and winding 5 turns of RG-6 through it. It goes on the
coax, right near
Any contest on top band is always enjoyable (unless there are continuous static
crashes), and a summer "Stew" would be fine. For a summer TBDC contest to be
successful, there needs to be more participation. So far, in my experience, the
summer "Stew" event has been disappointing in that there is
My brother W2NFK just purchased a G5RV MAX 160-10 meter antenna and when he
transmitts the RF is getting back into the shack making for RF burns on
the mic.The transceiver is a K'wood TS 440-SAT with the built in tuner.
Anyone have any ideas for a RF choke to stop it. Reply off line so not to
All this talk about beverages makes me thirsty. Thats, for 160M DX.
I use to rag chew on CW,use to run CW nets back in the day. If the guy is
calling CQ DX I sit and listen to see what is drummed up. He is paying for the
electric bill not me. Besides chances are he has a better antenna that I d
