Some research... So normally, gnome-terminal seems to start a systemd
unit for a server process. Which UAL doesn't associate with the
launching process, so doesn't allow a connection to Mir.
We can change how gnome-terminal is started by passing --disable-
factory, but that doesn't make much pro

1) Make a thumb drive with the latest zesty desktop image
2) Load it up, log out of default unity7 desktop
3) Switch desktop session to unity8, and log in as "ubuntu" (just press enter
for password)
You'll notice that the network icon is the default 'gear' ico
the mouse-dissappearing-zone, however, it remains mainly
visible.
I found some older chats blaming the nouveau drivers for X-org. However,
the nvidia does not work for me (no second monitor at all), so could not
check.

OK, I found a way to work around that with symlinks, so unity8-session
is now using mir-libs.
Though don't rush to upgrade; something (else?) broke, so edge isn't
rendering on screen. I think it's a gsettings issue, digging into it.

Comment #4 is not actually true. You can move the mouse slowly too. It
acts pretty much the same way as unity7. In addition to that, since the
latest release, the BFB now does open the App Drawer too, so does
Super+A, which is described in the Keyboard shortcuts help that appears
when Super is long

Didier and I settled on a version of desktop-launch that tries to use
mir-libs first, falling back to ubuntu-app-platform (while the libs are
in there), and if not, then falling back to an internal copy of the
libraries.
That should help the transition and doesn't encode a requirement on mir-

Yes - "BrowseLocalProtocols CUPS" was valid in 12.04 ( what I upgraded
from ) but not anymore. If you needed to add a BrowseLocalProtocols
line as opposed to switching its value, it seems that this auto-shutdown
feature is

Without any fixes I get these messages about 2 minutes after restarting
cups and cupsd is no longer running:

This is a very serious bug that breaks network printing in certain
configurations. To be clear: its not just that cups stops and the web
interface is unavailable - it can lead to not being able to print as
the print server looks like it is offline to the clients:

This is not the original issue, but yesterday I switched the unity8 snap
to use a different, more standard path (/run/user/xxx/mir_socket) for
the socket.
So if testing against the u8 snap, please re-create your app snaps to
pull down the latest version of the desktop-launch script which will
poin
So in both the phone and the snap, the libraries get loaded twice. The
first registration succeeds and the second fails.
But on the phone introspection works and with the snap, it doesn't. But
we don't have clues as to why yet... :(

The purge run but has errors as files do not exist and the rmdir fails
to execute.
