When I said 'system', I meant my home directory, but I can back up what you

Your home directory is huged. XZ would last days to compress a tar of it. Go
ZIP.
A very good graphical music frontend is Audacious, or DeadBeef. To managing
playlist and large music collection we have rhythmbox.
Yes you are, Dave, and you shouldn't have to say it for it to be true.

Your system? You only need to backup /etc, which is very small (hence XZ),
and the list of installed software, which is returned by the following
command:
$ dpkg --get-selections
From the list of installed software (let say you redirected the previous
command in a file named "packages"), yo
What do you think would be the best archive format for backing up my system
to a local hard drive?
If you want a good compression rate, XZ is the best solution (but you might
prefer the inferior but more widespread BZ2 format if you are to send the
file to non-tech people). If you want to rapidly compress very large files,
ZIP still remains the answer. All those formats are natively handle
This should probably be properly reported as a bug so that it can be tracked,
yes?
I also use mpd and is great for large music collections. A playlist of about
5,000 tracks takes only about 8-10 MB of RAM. And you can use a full featured
gui frontend to search and filter your collection and afterwards close the
gui and let the daemon do the work taking very few resources.

Chris, now the default Linux-libre 3.2.0-45 works with the firmware. Now you

How do I back up to multiple volumes in Backup, the backup program included
in Trisquel?
Could you be more clear? I find your question hard to understand.
I would guess a new kernel version causes a mismatch between your kernel and
the virtualbox kernel module.
So either use dkms to build for the current kernel or purge and reinstall
virtualbox.
sudo chmod o+x /path/to/
sudo because you don't own the file
chmod to change permissions
o to change permissions for non-owner, non-group
+x to change execute bit
Cinnamon by default uses 3d, but there is also a 2d mode which uses up extra
CPU. In that case if you cannot run it with libre drivers, is to go with the
Mini or MATE route. Cinnamon uses GTK3 and is based on an older Gnome 3 while
MATE is GTK2 based and based on Gnome 2.

I think that in Trisquel 6 by default radeon is blacklisted, which I find a
surprising choice.
You can add a # in front of the blacklist line in

actions need to be done as root or using sudo.) Then reboot.
