For what it's worth, my upgrade experience was fairly bumpy. I ended up with
quite a few packages failing to install due to conflicts, requiring manual
removal with aptitude, because apt-get was stuck. Got there in the end.

The text-base install works smoothly up until it fails to install
linux-image-generic.
The graphical install works smoothly as long as I accept the default

Also noting that after disabling Orca screen reader as per

logging in again, I notice that the "orca" process was consuming 100% of one
CPU core. Required a `killall -9 orca` to stop it.

There's Ubuntu Server and Base, but I see no Trisquel equivalents. Any advice
on how to build one, or find one at least?
I am going to try and create a Debootstrap folder then see where things go.
Also I see trisquel-base already as a package, but already installed. I don't
know what that means.

I can't boot. I "boot" into a terminal screen. When I put the login and
password, it then goes back to the grub's initial screen (the one showing
which distro to boot in). I did not enable the recovery mode. But that's ok
for me as long as I got my data back.
