"I don't understand how only radeon driver can cause such problems"
Because, on newer kernels, the radeon module is known to fall over and die
when the proprietary junk isn't present. You can thank the Linux kernel
developers for that.
And not necessarily for any good reason. In some cases

Never mind, just saw OPs comment.

This was definitely a problem with the version in Trisquel 7. I think
it's fixed in the version in Trisquel 8. The workaround was to omit the
tilde during the setup wizard, then go add it in
I had the same problem. I had to not use the setup wizard to get around it.
The ossguy who runs it seemed to know about that issue, but I don't know if
there is any plan to fix it.
I must say, this is really cool.
If a user of this forum can help you, I would bet on jxself, who maintains
that Linux-libre repository: https://jxself.org/linux-libre/
I had trouble trying to set up Linphone for JMP (it wasn't accepting the
tilde in the SIP username), so I gave up and used Ekiga instead. Works like a
charm.

I'm interested to know where you got this information, as this sort of
thing is very valuable to know. Each laptop listed in h-node has a
"wifi model" field saying whether or not the WiFi

Thank you for this clear answer.

To clarify why this is, dismail.de is only your XMPP provider, not your
SIP provider. JMP is your SIP provider, which is why the domain after
the @ is jmp.bwapp.bwsip.io. Since JMP knows you as
It's working now, I had it configured it wrong.
Thanks again!

Sorry, I forgot that the forum replaces anything that appears to be an
email address with "name at domain", so the SIP ID did not come out
correctly the way I wrote it. It should look like this

Thanks chaosmonk. I had to go reset my JMP password because I lost it. Now
that's done but I am still having trouble calling through linphone. It keeps
timing out whenever I try making a call.
Linphone keeps saying:

I'm not sure why it is
Thank you Magic Banana for suggestion. I don't think that using an old kernel
is a very wise idea, although I've tried it. However as you would expect it
gave me bunch of errors and did not mount the /home directory properly. The
boot process dropped me into a terminal (recovery mode). I
I have similar faulty icons with some GNOME applications, but not with
Abrowser. I think it's usually related to the default custom theme coming
with Trisquel MATE desktop installation. You may try another theme in System

Trisquel 9 is supposed to support ARM.
"could it run on this specific laptop"
I stopped reading when finding that it has a Mali GPU and also RTL8723BS for
WiFi. Both of these need proprietary software, which Trisquel wouldn't
provide.
"would it be possible to dream of a Trisquel Touch,
Hello everybody,
I've just discovered the announcement of the Pinebook Pro,
https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=7093 .
Reading on the forum, in thread from 2012 and 2014, I understood Trisquel was
not supporting arm.
What about today? Maybe the coming Trisquel 9?
Do you think then,

I use Linphone.
$ sudo apt install linphone
