This is not a bug as the kernel sends the SIGTERM and SIGKILL signals
to all the open applications. There may be a way around this but I am

on an ext2 or ext3 partition or some other linux file system.

Ram: ophcrack is well know but i think the size is around 600 mb and
it will attempt to crack the password when there are other pieces of
software that can reset the password in an instant.
