I am also affected by this issue, i have integrated the patch in the
init script and had the package rebuild.
It is now avalaible in my ppa for hardy. if someone need it to be build
for another distro, just ask I will be glad to do it.

There is a gconf key to remove this entry in the menu

I'm on a ltsp setup, i can use different .desktop files depending of the
user, i set XDG_DATA_DIRS to set desktop file to be used for the users.
In my $HOME/.kde/config/kdeglobals i set
BrowserApplication[$e]=firefox.desktop but kde doesn't use the
environment variable
I am also affected by this issue, installing python-numeric sure patch
the problem but i think we should need to install a package of universe
to launch a program from main.
If it could help, i installed my system for netinstall, selected ubuntu-
desktop then install gcompris.

Removing the tailling space resolv the issue, but the preseed file was
working before the 8.04.2 and the file wasn't edited between then and
now.

I just tested the kernel amd64, took 6 minutes for my pc to boot and no
network once it was.
dhclient eth0 didn't work.
a lot more r8169: eth0: link up lines were adding up.
The hardware used for the test was:

I use fr_CA.UTF-8 and i'm unable to change the language of the interface in
french in both ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10.
The translation is present in the package but not working.
Both changing the applications setting in the file menu or in command line :

As a workaround, i simply add a test in my file and run update-profile-cache
again.

and it work great.

I've been testing this application on intrepid 64-bit and it doesn't
work,
When there is a jpg file in the frame, there is a video output of this
frame but all the other picture are dropped..

I've been looking in the diff of the pam source package for the
parameter causing the privilege drop, but i've not been able to find
such parameter. I looked for drop and privilege and root and found
nothing useful. Configure from rules file doesn't have options that
apprents to drop privileges. I
I have tested the pam_mount on madriva 2007.0, build it from the ubuntu
source and it work fine on mandriva. The problem seem really to be in
pam under Ubuntu.
