FYI, when I tried a system upgrade from 6.06 LTS to 6.10, the Wireless
card in a desktop box, which is recognised as such in dapper's Network
Manager, changed to an 'ethernet' card in edgy's Network Manager, so
connectivity was lost. I was unable to set ESSID or WAP key.

I tried to configure and compile a software with cmake and got an error
concerning the variable RUBY_INCLUDE_PATH
I found out, that the problem is in
/usr/share/CMake/Modules/FindRuby.cmake
which is part of the cmake package.
This file points to
faced the same problem with my dell latitude. sometimes the screen
resumed fine after closing and opening. But it often failed to resume.
(At such times, pressing the power off button and hitting enter will
shut down the system).

This is definitely a software issue. Booting with a Live CD all is fine
with the keyboard and mouse. I've tried taking out the synaptics driver
and the wacom drivers too and still nothing shows up on the desktop and
keyboard touchpad is unresponsive at best.

I've updated to Edgy now. The crash happens with both gnome-screensaver
and plain x-. In fact, it will crash even if you just directly execute
/usr/lib/xscreensaver/starwars and maximise the window.

I guess one character in your screenshot comes from the Japanese font
Kochi Mincho and the other comes from a Chinese font, because Kochi
Mincho comes before the Chinese fonts in the standard aliases (serif,

- Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10)
- Beagle Search 0.2.9 (Using Desktop Search, not using Deskbar).

Ok it worked fine after a reboot, but now the keyboard and touchpad are
not working properly. It's like the machine has an IRQ conflict on the
keyboard. But the other odd thing is all my data I dumped onto the
Desktop is not showing up, not even able to get the run dialogue to
display in KDE, Alt-F

Thanks for the information so far and to Matt and others for their
attention. I upgraded to Edgy this morning and have the same problem:
my Palm Zire freezes and needs resetting when attempting a sync. I'll
follow this and the upstream bug with eager interest!

What i told about the fan stopping spinning, when temp reaches 49-51 C is
probably false at least in some cases.
When I turned on my laptop this morning I noticed that the fan worked very
often though temp was about 49 as usually. I suspended the machine and then
