Today I found a very interesting situation.

But before activating compiz, i had full-screen virtualbox on right display.
As you can see it's unharmed. I'm able to normally work in it.
As I pressed ctrl+f, to leave full-screen, virtualbox disappeared behind the

I have the same problem as initially described, however I noticed that
my Fn-F7 key works (did not work in previous Ubuntu releases) so this

Maybe I did not explain clearly. X refused to start when I had installed
the NVIDIA video card, while fglrx was still installed. After I
installed the NVIDIA graphics driver and removed fglrx X started working

I've got to say that on my system (see bug description) the bug got
solved with the installation of Kernel 2.26.31-rc3 (and xorg-edgers
ppa). At least I could boot to XFCE without having the VGA connector
attached and the correct/native display resolution is selected

I tried to hack the flashplugin-installer_10.0.22.87ubuntu2_amd64.deb so
that it won't try to update-alternativ those things. Now at least one
can install the package and uninstall it afterwards. Once flashplugin-
nonfree is installed flash works again. I'll append the hacked 64-bit
package, the
