The discussion on Bug 985508 suggests that the pristine check can never
apply for this package since /etc/iptables/rules is a 'configuration'
file, not a conffile.
Therefore the use of dpkg-mainscript-helper is likely erroneous anyway.
It will never be removed directly.
So perhaps we can strip

I can confirm that this still happens on 12.04 LTS.
Adding the line to xorg.conf as suggested by Pierre Chifflier makes it
work correctly. I'm using proprietary drivers too.

Actually, OpenTTD 1.2.0 was only released last weekend, and I (Debian
maintainer) just uploaded it to Debian yesterday, so it's not so weird
that it's not in Ubunut yet :-)
Having said that, I guess this would be a good time to pull the package from
Debian. I'm not sure about the procedure for
