I could debug it down to a testcase. Just create the file
/etc/init/test.conf with the following lines:

touching /userdata/.writable_image, but bluetooth stays off after the
image becomes writable.

Same here, but it also happen on the play button in Rhythmbox itself. It
is an almost-certainty after the first login or boot (for me this is
virtually the same thing). Time counter and slider stay on 0:00, one
core goes to 100%, UI freezes. Closing brings up the dialog if I want to

As far as I'm concerned we can just close this bug. It's been more than
3½ years, and I think I've seen it working in the meantime (if probably
on different hardware).

Every new device that is not supported by old kernels could be called to have
an upstream bug.
This is incorrect. If a bug is reproducible in an Ubuntu (downstream)
kernel but not mainline (upstream), it's not an upstream bug.
