Here is a test I would like you to try:
boot up into the BIOS, and turn off only the trackpad. Leave the
pointing (red button) on.
Then boot up into linux, and BEFORE you login in, see if the trackpad
responds to the touch.
On my X250, it do
If HOME is removed, then e.g. vim, bash, etc., will use /root/.vimrc,
/root/.bashrc, etc rather than the user's ~/.vimrc, ~/.bashrc, etc.
While it's a bad idea to run X clients via sudo, they too would likely
look in the wrong locations for configuration files, and there's a
chance that X11 clients

Thanks for the bug fix. Problem solved for me too, on Ubuntu 14.04.4
LTS.
After several days of manual "advanced" reboot, the problem disappeared
simply upgrading with this command:
sudo apt-get install network-manager
... which upgraded to this version:

a space in the file system after / trusty..security which would point to
a possible problem updating security files. The software pkgs are
otherwise up to date. This is a recurring issue. The browser is
obviously where the Trojans enter. I would think.

I have a Dell XPS 13 (9343) hooked up to a Dell U2515H Monitor running
16.04 (clean install around beta) and connected to the monitor via 3.5mm
stereo out I have a pair of Logitech speakers. When I hotplug the
monitor to my laptop and try to play audio through "HDMI" the audio

Hope the SRU will be accepted quickly. Should be the case, since this
issue causes loss of user data as applications will have no reason to
retry files writes under out of space conditions.

issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to

Marco, in typical fashion I have tried all evening to recreate this with
no success, after getting it consistently through reboots yesterday.
I wasn't able to drop to tty1 when it happened, but I will grab the
backtrace via SSH the next time it happens.

gnome-software itself does not seem to do anything when I ask to install
a software package. The only thing which changes is the indicator
"pending" goes on, but that is it. When I do the install via apt-get
install synapse (the actual example), synapse installs okay and works.
