This isn't a duplicate of #92599. This is with Detect Refresh Rate
turned OFF (no detection whatsoever) and a custom value set- it simply
isn't saving it.

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open ccsm, 'Composite' category
2) Uncheck 'Detect Refresh Rate'
3) Set a custom refresh rate
4) Log out
5) Open ccsm and go back to 'Composite', note that the refresh rate has
defaulted back to 50

I have a Intel Corporation 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller
for the record, and have been experiencing this since Precise. On
Quantal now.

I fixed this by unselecting "Have file manager handle the desktop" in
gnome-tweak-tool. This however is just a hack for users like me who
don't like desktop icons ;)
You might be able to use something like thunar or pcmanfm to handle the
desktop instead.

I can confirm this. In addition, the FPS in Unity for some cases remains
roughly the same (for me in Minecraft) but the experience is still not
very smooth. One solution I found for that particular case was to
disable refresh rate detection in CCSM and bump up the refresh rate to
