sorry I forgot to mention, that I'm using Transend 4 gb drive. I've also
tried using unetbootin. I tried using the dd command to install the iso
on my disk. but nothing seemingly works on my pc. I've even tried
installing maverick meerkat and creating a startup disk from that.

installing the dosfstools (lucid) from your ppa. I've tried formatting
the disk in ubuntu, windows, destroying the partitions using diskpart in
windows and then recreating them. The funny thing is that my laptop is

After this workaround, i keep getting the "boot error".. nothing else on
my desktop. but in my laptop, it boots without any trouble. any
suggestions why that might be the case. I've tried erasing the disc
several times, but I come to the same thing.

Similar error here on Acer Aspire 4710, but boots into the laptop
alright. Just shows these warning signs and says something like could
affect performance and then boots into Kubuntu 9.10 alpha 6 with all the
latest updates.

This has been a problem for me from Ubuntu 8.04+ and I'm now using
Kubuntu 9.10 alpha 4. I have to manually mute the front channel speakers
everytime.
Any idea as to why this might be happening.
I'm using Acer Aspire 4710 with Intel chipset. If you need more
