In my case the bug was triggered by trying to install the driver for an Epson
scanner Perfection V500 Photo.
It is a great scanner, too bad the Ubuntu developers think it is enough to
support HP printers and scanners. Epson provides proprietary Linux drivers,
unfortunately not distribution

Yes, after a kernel update, but not only 14.04, I had the same problem on and
off in 13.10, approx. from Jan till beginning of March, before I went 14.04.
I do not know if it made a difference: whenever these errors popped up I was
not able to update using the Software Updater, but if I
Gotta love the error reporting system. In Trusty Tahr I am having a mild issue
with the software center crashing apparently whenever it is maximized on screen
and click the Close icon in its menu bar, not happening if I unmaximize it
first.
Error report said this is the bug, nothing new.
Audacity did install and works in spite of the crash.
I have a feeling the problem might be with apport being a little too panicky,
maybe mistaking warnings for crashes.

Binary package hint: couchdb
The current couchdb package works great for me on my workstation.
I wanted to install it to a server(ec2) and found the xulrunner dependency is
pulling in lots of desktop-related packages.
It seems couchdb only needs spidermonkey (which -on
I created a fake xulrunner deb to work around the issue.
It includes just libmozjs.so (the file couchdb is after) and a fake xulrunner
binary that just returns the version number (needed by couchdb startup script)
Also, I removed all dependencies except for libnspr4-0d

Hi, thanks for checking.
Personally, I can live with using some karmic packages on my desktop system.
So calling it critical might be a bit too much.
I reverted to full disk encryption in the mean time.

I can confirm this problem on plain old ext3.
whenever git has to work on ecryptfs, symlinks fail.
I cannot add new symlinks, and all old ones(when I clone an existing repo)
permanently stay in a 'modified' state.
