working with the evdev driver on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS but the volume of info was
such that it was hard to figure out what was the right thing to do vs the wrong
thing to do.

I just upgraded from 10.10 to 11.04 and I'm getting the same problem.
Unity loads and I can move the mouse but nothing responds to mouse
clicks or the keyboard. I can switch to the console with Alt+Ctrl+F2,
when I switch back with Alt+Ctrl+F7 I get a black screen with the mouse
cursor.

from a previous install of Ubuntu. I'd have to dig out the old hard disk and
boot it to remember which version, exactly, but on a prior version of Ubuntu

I'm having this problem with 9.04, using a Canon i860 printer. I can't
get either inkblot or Qink to recognize the printer. I've added my user
to the lp group, and that did not help. How is Mtink supposed to help?

For the record... on further investigation, I no longer believe that
this bug is the cause of my particular shutdown hang. It *is* the last
error message in the shutdown log, but after the message is issued, I
hear the hard disk park, and see a "power down" message. My current

Absolutely *not* cosmetic for me. With a freshly updated 8.04, I see
this hang on absolutely every shutdown. It is not clear that I can move
forward past 8.04 LTS without losing the accelerated nvidia drivers and
