I also request that this bug be fixed, and the kernel expose the /dev/mixer, /dev/dsp, and other devices.. I have 3 sound cards in my home machine, hooked up to several radio tuners. Signals are recorded according to cron jobs and bash scripts. How exactly will I replace that functionality

Thanks for the reply. If the problem is social, and 6 years old, I'll despair of it ever being fixed. Do you know of any source for a packaged fix for this? If no one else has done it, I will just package cdrecord into a .deb file, and install that. So, I will still be able to use kubuntu
