I too am having this same issue (found this via the thread on the Ubuntu

It happens at random times for me. At first, I thought it was the whole
issue with my machine not being able to come out of a sleep. But after
awhile it just
Checked various logs in /var, but couldn't find anything after my system
froze again (checked a few times after a few freezes). Just some more
info:
My laptop has a BCM4318 wireless NIC and it's using ndiswrapper.

fresh gutsy install, installed all updates, received same error when
trying to open Hardware Information.
