I have closed the bug in aMule's bugtracker. aMule 2.2.6 runs fine in Maverick
when it was built in Maverick.
This one here obviously wasn't, since Maverick ships with wxGTK 2.8.11 .
Just create a new binary package for Maverick. The aMule project does
not provide binaries for Linux.

This crash is from an unsupported SVN version of aMule 2.2.0 from over
two years ago. There have been six stable aMule releases since. Current
stable version of aMule in Ubuntu is 2.2.6.

Ok. Looks like this bug hit the circular filing cabinet. So the end-game
workaround I'm living with now is (for any co-suffers in agony):
- Keeping nm-applet installed
(Because connecting to secured wireless by command line is a PITA)
- Disabling nm-applet from starting up (see gnome-session)

Not that the "break Alt-tab" means: Windows A & B on viewport 1, Move
window B to viewport 2 and _back_ to viewport 1, and Alt-Tab loses that
window. Also the Alt-Shift-Tab (or the windows switcher that shows up
like a list), lets you see all the windows in the list, but when you
switch to Window

Well, it seems the discussion confirms this bug anyway, but since I just
experienced it as well, I'll add my vote. brltty grabs the connection
and removes the raw serial device, and so obviously removing brltty
fixed it.

Yes, all windows maximize slightly under the panel: tested gedit,
epiphany, gcalc, etc
I've attached a screenshot of the result of using the maximize vertical

Additionally, I should mention that it is still happening in Edgy. I
think it must have something to do with the way the kernel handles my
chipset... which I is one of the NVIDIA nForce ones. I'll get more info
later this afternoon when I get home.

I just suspended and resumed with kernel 2.6.17-10.33 about 10 times in
a row, in various states of AC and ethernet and had NO problems at all.
It hasn't panic'd for me yet, but I have no access points around, so I
haven't tried it with wireless at this point.
A huge improvement!

Aha! Thank you very much Sebastien, that will certainly work. Although,
I don't think I agree with the decision to hide that plugin by default.
The number of computers that will be associated with an mp3 player is
probably less than 50%.

was concerned with a legal issue so I went back and shortened them to
