I'm not sure if it's related, but I'm also seeing that on a T520, I'm
*consistently* unable to boot with discrete graphics enabled. Either
Integrated or Optimus boots fine.

I followed the instructions as you suggested and installed the 3.8-rc5
kernel. I did not see improvement, thus I added the kernel-bug-exists-
upstream tag (I may needed to have added the kernel-unable-to-test-
upstream.)

Good afternoon. After a kernel upgrade yesterday I am unable to boot
into 12.04.1 again. I managed to boot in initially using "nomodeset"
and reinstalled my Nvidia drivers (310.## I believe). However, now I
simply get stuck after a "loading swap" message.
Is there any new information on this issu

Booting Trouble With Lenovo T520 (NVS 4200M)
Good Evening and Happy New Year,
Attempted a reboot again after software install. This time no kernel
update, so no "nomodeset" at any time.
First, direct "Restart" attempt I got stuck at a purple screen. I
had to powercycle.

Updated my kernel headers today, did a reboot. Added "nomodeset" at grub
using 'e'. Booted successfully and recompiled NVidia drivers. Did a 'sudo
service lightdm start' successfully and finally rebooted once again.
At reboot, I got stuck at a purple screen (even though "quiet"

to disable the NVidia card in the BIOS. I did however, attempt the
opposite, enabling optimus and using the nouveau drivers. People
suggested they had luck with that, however I remember not succeeding.

In the bug description, you mention that you left 12.04 and returned.
Did you perform a fresh install each time?
Also, does the bug go away if you disable the Nvidia card like mentioned
in comment #27?

I have the same problem on Ubuntu 12.10.
Ubuntu starts only if Nvidia card is turned of in BIOS (Intel card is
selected).

Joseph, this bug has existed since the unity change. I have had trouble
with 10.10, 11.04, 11.10. The last stable kernel/release to run on my
system successfully was 10.04.

ALSO ALt-SysReq REISUB does not respond ever. The only way to recover
from these failure boots is to power cycle.
