I apologize for not responding sooner. This issues was fixed a few days
after reporting the issue. The current 5.0.0-15 is working fine and I
agree this must have been a temporary kernel regression. I will close

FWIW, I ran into this after updating to 19.04 from 18.04.
Audio working fine with HDMI (yay) but not with back panel audio (boo)
unless I ran aplay as root, e.g.
sudo aplay -D sysdefault:CARD=PCH /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Left.wav
ps showed timidity running. 'sudo apt remove timidity; sudo kil
Sound is still working today with the 4.20.17 kernel. I will give it
another day before I draw any conclusions.

Sometimes the issues does not appear until the next day (warm vs cold

According to the log, when problem happens, the Nvidia hdmi codec
doesn't response the HDA controller, Usually it is nvidia graphic
driver's issue.
Let us disable the nvidia hdmi audio temporarily and see if this problem
still exists?

Looks like my problem was unrelated to this issue, it was actually
caused by timidity blocking the physical sound device.
This workaround fixed it: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1085174/no-

You received this bug notification because
I also noticed this, my laptop's integrated Intel audio device is also
missing from pulseaudio(both as input and output), but I can see other
HDMI or USB sound devices I may have attached and I can switch to them
and they work as expected.
Interestingly the device works when playing a WAV file usi
Separately, the "tick" and "thud" may be related to bug 1821663.

Not sure if recent updates have fixed the issue, but problem has not
appeared after several sleep and awake events. I will ensure to post
details and try the above edit if problem recurs.

1. Please reproduce the problem and then while sound is not working run:
journalctl -b0 > journal.txt
and send us the file 'journal.txt'.
2. Please try editing /etc/pulse/daemon.conf and add a new line:
realtime-scheduling = no
and reboot. Does that fix it?
