Hi I am unable to downgrade kernels since i am running a server on it as
well. I tried the speakers on windows machine and they seem to be
working finw...ran them for a couple of days and there was no popping or
sound crackling issues so its definitely not the speakers.

Can you please try the kernel used in 18.04? It should be 4.15.

Sound cuts off and back on randomly during online streaming of videos
hdajackretask did not help. Going to remove it now. Any other things i
should try ? This wasnt a problem in 18.04 but in 20.04 it is
irritating.

I just followed the instructions mentioned on this link:
https://gist.github.com/Brainiarc7/8ff198a5ac3f0050f68795233c4866d0
Of note is that for /etc/pulse/daemon.conf , the following changes must
be made (with your preferred text editor):
(a). For 5.1 channel sound, set: default-sample-channels
apport information
** Tags added: apport-collected
** Description changed:
Sound shuts off and turns back on again with two pop clicks. When the
sound is off, if i turn up the volume to the max, i can hear crackling
sound in speakers in tune with sound playing on the computer.
The popping and random time delay sound like a hardware/motherboard
fault. But please also check your speaker connections, and try different
speakers/different jacks if you can.

Thanks for the reply.
Over amplification is already off. No process takes more than 12% CPU
utilization.

Please:
1. Look in Settings > Sound and make sure 'Over-Amplification' is OFF.
Does that fix it?
2. Open a terminal window and run 'top'. Now tell us if any process is
using high CPU when the problem occurs.

Thank you for your bug report. Does it happen with any sound
/application? Could you add your 'journalctl -b 0' log after getting the
issue?
