actually i saw that the initial bug was about 8.04 not 8.10. my
connection editor comment applied to ubuntu 8.10 only. However, 8.10
also fixes the initial reporters complains.

the connection editor is just for configuration of connections. they are
not specifically bound to a certain device. you bind them by clicking on
the connection in the applet drop down.

skerit, thats ok. it doesnt use netmask, but prefix. if your netmask is
255.255.255.0 then 24 is correct.

Confirmed. I'm unable to set up a static IP address in network-configuration.
Also, when I set up a subnet mask, I enter it correctly, but the tool
automatically changes it ti "24"
I don't know if that's right or not, but if it confuses me, it'll confuse a lot
more people.
