WARNING DO NOT USE STARTUP MANAGER TO ATTEMPT CHANGES IN GRUB 2 !
It is not intended to change GRUB 2 settings.
GRUB 2 is a new changing project as all settings info. I find is out of date.
Make changes to GRUB 2 with a new UNDER_DEVELOPMENT Startup Manager 2 only.
Sadly it has not been released y
The version 1.9.13 should have fixed it with su wrapper.

Hi I have the same problem. I've tried to install new usplash screen in
both ways (with commands mentioned in the first comment and via startup

If you try installing the themes manually with the commands philinux wrote in
the first comment, do it work then?
Otherwise this is a bug in usplash.

Hi
I have the same problem.
I have upgraded from Hardy to Intrepid - Startupmanager worked fine before the
upgrade.
Running Startupmanager shows no errors and I can set different splash
screens from within the gui. However, all splash screens (except the
default one shipped with Intrepid) fail t
At the time I wrote the comment on 2008-08-08 I was using Hardy.

Ok running it with sudo fixed it. There was a panel came up regarding
grub having been locally modified. So I chose the package maintainers
version.
This has now sorted out the problem. It was not writing the new grub.
There must have been difference between /boot/grub/menu.lst and the one

Very strange, since those are the commands sum use to install/change usplash
theme.
That it should fail to change other settings is even more weird.
Try launching it from a terminal with sudo startupmanager (yes, use sudo not

Then try changing some settings t
Update. I used these commands to get a usplash installed.
