jaunty and the nvidia is working perfectly. Now I just have a problem with
Cupsys missing and so Canon's laser printer drivers will not work under
Jaunty!

I logged a bug for Jaunty about this, then found a temporary fix at
least. I found that If I searched the repositories using synaptic for
all nvidia drivers I found many versions but I needed nvidia-glx-180-dev
package. I installed it, ran the hardware driver gui again and bingo it
loaded the corre
I had the almost the same problem but with ATI Radeon Xpress 1200 Series
(motherboard), Hardware drivers app got in black and white mode(not
responding) and it stills this way, so I restarted the machine, and then
tried again to install the driver using hardware driver app, and the
same happened ag
Exactly the same behaviour I see with my server install here. Ther server
kernel header files are not installed by default but expected by the dkms
compilation. This is not checked by jockey-kde. But maybe even the install of
nvidia-glx(-177) should officially fail when it doesn't find these pac

My problem was a variance on this theme, disabling NVIDIA drivers did not work
after the upgrade to 8.10 (from 8.04).
I checked xorg.conf and the driver was not changed to 'nv' even though the GUI
status showed the NVIDIA driver(177) deactivated - my reason for deactivating
was frequent comple
Thanks! Actually, the output from the terminal after doing those
commands indicated that it didn't work, but it did work..

you'll need to install linux-headers for your kernel:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`
then load up the "hardware drivers gui" again.
I actually managed to break my "hardware drivers" gui during trying to
fix it. I managed to install the driver directly via
sudo apt-get ins

Except I am not using the beta...I upgraded my box to Ibex today. (I
was able to use compiz on the beta 64-bit on the same machine).
