Just tested Jaunty alpha 4 in livecd mode :
- no more high frequency problem
- always a messy video with correct mouse pointer ([Needs AGPMode quirk] messy
screen on radeon 9200SE
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164972 )

[RV280 9200se] monitor frequency too high
Thanks for testing. Unfortunately, the -ati driver did not get updated
in time for alpha 4. It will be before Jaunty releases. In the meantime
you can install the -ati/-radeon packages from my PPA

The frequency issue here seems to be fixed in Jaunty. The messy screen
in bug 164972 is fixed upstream. It would be nice if you can test the
next Jaunty alpha to verify that everything works.

For the messy video, I already filed a bug a long time ago ...
Last try with Jaunty in text mode. That gave the following xorg.conf and
the joined Xorg.0.log.
Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
EndSection
Section Monitor
Identifier Configured Monitor
Thanks for the log. It seems like the issue is fixed in Jaunty:
(II) RADEON(0): Using exact sizes for initial modes
(II) RADEON(0): Output VGA-0 using initial mode 1280x1024

Please, which bug was that? You have altogether filed 9

set later as duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/313262
and now no 3D on Intrepid after frequency too high ... and Jaunty that does
not seem better (and includes freeze
Unfortunately you have been hit by several bugs. We will try to fix
them, one by one :) I have undup'ed bug 164972 (we know a lot more about
these issues now than last year).

You received this bug notification
Not really better with Jaunty : messy video with good mouse pointer as usual
...
I tried to copy Xorg.0.log on disk but experienced also a system freeze ...
I will wait for the official delivery !

You received
messy video with good mouse pointer - this is the AGPMode issue, it
won't be fixed before you file a bug on it.
Please try this: boot from the Jaunty CD adding text to the
boot/kernel parameters. Log in to the text console and edit xorg.conf to
include the ModeDebug option. Then run sudo Xorg
Please find attached the Xorg.0.log when booting with xorg.conf as
follows :
Section Device
Identifier Configured Video Device
Driver ati
Option ModeDebug true
EndSection
Section Monitor
Identifier Configured Monitor
EndSection
Thanks. It looks wrong so we should forward this upstream. But first it
would be very useful if you can try out Jaunty alpha 3 if possible (live
CD is ok) to see if the bug not already has been fixed in the newer
versions.
