Yeah, thx a lot Bryce, ur PPA solved my problemnow xorg and desktop effects
works fine.
Now i have only my ibm lotus notes (8) burning my cpu on startup.even with
desktop effects off. It's hard to find a solution here.

had the same problem with KDE 4.2.4 on Arch Linx 64bit on a Dell Studio with
Mobility Radeon HD 3450.
For me it worked to set "Fenster-Vorschaubilder vorhalten" to "always".
Sorry for the german word. I don't know how to get the english terms. But

This thing really works! The perfect combination is the xserver patch +
change from autodetect video to X Window (No Xv). Now I have no problem
in maximizing/minimizing and I can play videos fullscreen with no
problem!

Hi everyone
After installing the newest ATI Driver 8.612 on my Ubuntu 9.04, i ran
into this problem too. I had a 2sec delay on maximizing / restoring
windows using compiz.
I managed to solve it by installing :
XServer with no backfill functionality

I've same problem too with my Dell Studio 15, Ati Radeon HD3450 graphics card.
I use the latest Ubuntu version, Jaunty in 64 bits.
I fixed the bug with the PPA too ! Thanks a lot to Ubuntu Community !

the patch seems to solve the problem. Unfortunatelly I spotted another
thing - when playing movie the movie freezes every 5 - 6 mins for just
one or two sec. It is nothing really bad, but you would expect the movie
to go smoothly. Tested under VLC, Movie player...so the playback is n

I can confirm the bug on my ASUS pro55 (ATI HD3470 512MB video)
I can also confirm that patching xorg-server fixed the issue for me (since I'm
not using composite and such stuff I don't care in particular what else happens)
I'm also attaching lspci --vvnn's output..

Everything is working almost perfect like in ubuntu 8.10.
Please Canonical, make Ubuntu first stable before innovating! Although,
open source driver is more convenient, fglrx driver works much better

Fix for PPA worked for me ( Radeon HD 3850), catalyst 9.4.
I just add to reinstall the catalyst proprietary drivers.
No issue with full screen video as of today.

The fix from the PPA works perfectly for me (graphics card identified as
Mobility Radeon HD 3650).
For anyone experiencing further problems with OpenGL, turning off all
desktop effects (I uninstalled Compiz) seems to fix them.

I was using fglrx in 8.10 with xserver 1.5, but ATI dropped support for
my card (radeon 9600) from their xserver 1.6 compatible fglrx drivers,
The fix causes more problems than it solves.
I can only recommend not to use it.

After applying patch all works smoothly.
But found the problem reported above.
1. The video playback is unstable:
- Some times it freezes the player (reproducible in Thotem, VLC and all other
players)
- Video playback sometimes is very slw, after player window resizing
- Crashes to blac
After the patch everything works great except for playing videos at
fullscreen mode, it hangs SO displaying black screen. If I switch off
compiz, video at fullscreen mode works fine.
I'm running 9.04 on Sony Vaio FW11M with ATI 3400 HD.
If anyone knows how to solve the video problem it'll be grea

I have the same problem here. And i also noticed that if rhythmbox is
playng, when i maximize, or open some programs the sound stops for a
couple of seconds. I have Ubuntu 9.04 and my graphics card is an ATI
