I suppose there is no grub file in /etc/default because after an upgrade you still use the old grub. I have the same shutdown problem. I changed the boot commandline from quiet splash to quiet acpi=force and this helps 8 out of 10 times. But still, sometimes the acpi of my system (AMD64, 1

I have the same problem. I can't shut down. This first happened after upgrading from Karmic. I thought it might be a problem with the upgrade process, so I did a clean reinstall. The problem reappears. Not sure what info on my computer you might want, or what command to type to get the info
