It's actually a bug in kde-guidance, not kdebase.
The update of Version: 0.6.7svn20060906-0ubuntu2
fixes this problem.

I have no 'end current session'
Maybe I wasn't clear.
I clicked on kmenu, I saw the options 'switch user', 'lock session'
and 'log out..'
The log out option does nothing. I clicked on it but nothing happened.

I believe 'end current session' is your logout option. Maybe it should
say logout.
